With headquarters in Lubbock, Texas, and satellite locations across West Texas and eastern New Mexico, Standard Energy Services, also known as Standard E&S, transports fluids and performs well maintenance for oil and gas operations in the Permian Basin. Standard Energy Services maintains a partnership with PEC Safety, a provider of standardized skills-and-safety training for employees of oil and gas industry contractors. In order to attain the required credentials to contract work with most onshore oil and gas operators in the United States, Standard certifies its workforce of well-servicing operators, drivers, and field technicians through PEC Safety occupational training programs accredited by SafelLandUSA.
Prior to 2005 and the establishment of SafeLandUSA, operators in the energy resources exploration and production sector possessed no standardized safety orientation. Consequently, contractors had to complete separate but highly similar safety-training programs for each operator with which they worked. In an effort to remedy this inefficient process, a group of operators collaborated to form SafeLandUSA Advisory Group, which created a program for collectively approved safety instruction, the SafeLandUSA Orientation. Since its initial implementation, SafeLandUSA has become the favored measure of minimum safety standards among companies, industry associations, and educators working in onshore U.S. oil and gas exploration.
The Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) among onshore oil and gas contractors is 211 percent lower for those whose employees receive SafeLandUSA instruction than for those without the certification. As such, contractors who utilize SafeLandUSA-accredited programs verify the use of best practices on the part of their staff in relation to environment, health, and safety hazards and possess a credential valued across the industry by operators interested in minimizing losses due to preventable accidents.
The first programs accredited by SafeLandUSA were the PEC Safety Basic Orientation and Core Compliance courses. In addition to PEC Safety, contractors currently seeking SafelandUSA training can obtain it from two other accrediting organizations. For those who choose PEC Safety, the organization’s hundreds of SafeLandUSA-audited trainers are available to teach courses at facilities located across 38 states.
